What is WebCT
WebCT creates an on-line classroom environment quickly and easily utilizing course tool software. Simply put, WebCT transforms the educational experience. WebCT provides a web interface for designing the course (unlike traditional web-publishing, WebCT "walks" an instructor through the presentation format of the course, including color schemes, page layout design and elements of the "electronic classroom"). In addition, WebCT provides tools for both the instructor and the students to assist in creating and managing the web course structure. WebCT is designed as a "complete distance learning solution" but can also be used as a course enhancement, allowing effective communication and collaboration among faculty and students outside the physical classroom environment.
What does WebCT provide?

Course Conferencing System (bulletin boards or discussion groups)

Electronic Mail (class specific email)

Chat Tool (live discussion areas, private for the session with both logged and unlogged areas)

Whiteboard Tool (a method of "drawing" on a board in real-time with all active participants viewing the board)

Student Self Evaluation (multiple choice questions can be added to any page of course notes. These questions are scored by the system with the results given immediately to the student)

Timed On-Line Quizzes (quizzes can be created and "released" on a specific date/time. These quizzes can be discontinued at a specific date and time)

Page Annotation (students can add private notes to any notes page in the course. These are only viewable to the specific student)

Grade Tool (students can view their overall course results)

Calendar Tool (a course calendar can be created with assignments, dates and more)

Who is using WebCT?
There are more than 4.6 million student accounts being used at more than 1000 educational institutions! At MSU, WebCT is being used in the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Science and Mathematics.
