What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is an e-learning (electronic-learning) software that allows
colleges, universities and other commercial education providers to bring
their courses, communities, and campus services on-line. Blackboard
delivers a set of powerful course management tools that enable instructors
to provide their students with course materials, discussion boards,
virtual chat, on-line assessments, and a dedicated academic resource
center on the Web.
What purpose does it serve?
The purpose of Blackboard is to provide faculty and students with a
total interactive e-learning environment. This includes such basics as
announcements, course information, staff information, course documents,
assignments, assessments and external links. Instructors can administer surveys
and course evaluations on-line, in addition to
on-line exams and quizzes. The e-mail function permits sending to individuals or
groups.
Who is using Blackboard on campus?
Blackboard is open to any faculty member on campus. It is also
possible to use some of the functions within Blackboard for committee work.
How can you get started?
An account needs to be established before using Blackboard. It is also
suggested that a training session be scheduled to learn about the
capabilities and functions. To get an account, contact Shunfa Li at extension
5448. In addition, you can visit the Blackboard website at http://www.blackboard.com
or http://edtech.montclair.edu
for more information.
