Call for Proposals: Proposals that address the multifaceted nature of the first year transition are invited for review. Specific areas of focus include but are not limited to:
Retention and Assessment Strategies
Issues in Academic Advisement & Monitoring
Working with Helicopter Parents
Peer Mentor Programs
Living Learning Environments / First-Year Residence Programs
New Student Orientation
Placement and Testing
Learning Communities / Linked Courses
Pedagogy and Instruction for First-Year Courses
Proposal Deadline: Monday, April 16, 2007
Selection Criteria: Proposals will be selected based on their relevancy to the conference topic, the expertise of the presenter(s), and the creativity of the presentation topic. Evidence of assessment will increase the likelihood of the proposal's acceptance.
Note: Presenters must be registered for the conference to present.
Session Types
Concurrent sessions are 60 minutes in length and should allow for 40-50 minutes of formal presentation and 15-20 minutes for questions and discussion. These sessions can focus on research, trends and issues, institutional initiatives, and best practices.
Topical tables will be set up during lunch so attendees can discuss first-year transition issues. Proposals to facilitate discussion on particular topics will be considered.

All sessions will be held in Smart Classrooms that are equipped with a VCR, DVD player, CD player, Overhead Projector, 70" x 70" Screen, and CD ROM drive.
